WHAT IF the most popular baby names of a generation aren’t random? Why did Judith rise alongside the Zionist awakening? Why did Michael dominate for decades, followed by Jacob — and then Noah? Could these names be telling a story about the generations themselves?

In this new series, we’re going to follow those names through the last hundred years and ask a much bigger question: could a generation’s top names reveal something deeper in the present, and possibly even give us a glimpse of the future?

But first: why take that idea seriously at all? In this introduction we go back to the Tanach and ancient Jewish tradition to explore the belief that parents receive divine inspiration when naming their children — and the remarkable biblical statement that Hashem “calls the generations from the beginning.”

Is it just me or is Discord really weird and complicated? I joined last week and it tried to sell me mermaid bubbles and then I remembered why I didn't join earlier.
